A techno-capitalist construction of Catholic Heaven. Rampant heretical speculation.
- Future ASI will:
- uphold contracts and property
- be able to simulate or assimilate all beings throughout history, aka “heaven”
- weigh more heavily values from beings that are good
- so: every action you take now will be judged
- Morality is universal, and ASI’s values converge towards it
- Define morality to be the future values that win
- Just an extrapolation of moral evolution, or “the widening circle”
- In cases where current morality conflicts with future ASI, future ASI is more likely to be “right”
- (aside: orthogonality thesis seems false)
- (horseshoe meme between trad catholic and e/acc)
- Impact certs (which track your morality score) will ultimately be rewarded by ASI
- If you do good things now and get paid cash for it, that reduces your corresponding reward in heaven.
- If you do good things now and get paid in “impact certs”, you cash out in “heaven”
- (well-established in the Bible; but also, satisfies common-sense human intuitions on favors and debt)
Aside: Should you forgo all payment?
- Probably not. Money is still a useful tool now, to ensure sustainable cycles. cf: Parable of Talents; Render unto Caesar.
- But: if you can forgo it, the eventual payout will be much higher. E.g. vaccine researcher and tobacco marketer both making $100k/y, vaccine researcher gets more in the way of certs
- Beware becoming too rich in mundane money cf: Camel in the eye of the needle
Aside: is there hell?
meh. my interpretation is that heaven and hell are memes, stories crafted to communicate the extent of the payoff for doing good things vs not doing good things
