- Osumania learnings:
- Remapping to 9keys is Really Hard!
- Colors changing are the most annoying
- Though colors also help visual distinguish which keys to press
- Even "easy" songs aren't all quarter notes, they have intermixed eight notes to change it up (otherwise it'd get way too boring)
- Sliders look visually cool and are a good way of dealing with longer (half, whole) beats
- Holding one key down and pressing another makes you feel like a genius
- Nice to have scoring and combo in the same narrow field of view
- Rhythm games have a steep curve
- Not many easy songs
- Feels great when a song gets progressively harder, because the melody itself is repetitive, you want to try new things
- Repeating melodic measures put you into a flow state, and you get used to what to expect and can forecast what's coming up next
- Mecha Koi Ranman: expected melody is there, but quieter
- Also, piano sound is not so harsh
- Nice to have: Holding down "R" should rewind more
- Osumania editor:
- Slower playback was super useful
- Nice to see the beat lines while mapping
- Also, more condensed view so you see everything
- Scrolling to see notes instead of "R/T", kinda intuitive?
- But have to move away from the keyboard
- Always placing notes with mouse, never with keyboard... Turns into a very "designed" experience. This was also how the EDM guy made music
- Do any composers, compose music improv?
- How do jazz musicians practice improv music?
- Osu multiplayer
- Kinda fun to have chat
- Had to wait for each person's song to load tho, kinda annoying
- Look up tag2, tag4 modes?
- Osu singleplayer:
- Trying to not die is a lot of the fun/tension
- Really quick restart so you aim again for the best note
