Ada behaviors I love, at 8 months

  • When she grabs something new and is about to put it into her mouth and then pauses and takes a look at me before deciding to do so
  • When she literally sticks her foot in her mouth and sucks on it, with no reference whatsoever to concepts like “hygiene” or “what other people think”

  • When she is excited and uses her open palm to repeatedly whack a table (or a person)
  • When you’re busy looking at a phone or laptop and she insistently reaches for it despite your best efforts to shoo her off
  • When she spits up a glob of half-digested milk and immediately looks satisfied with herself for having done so
  • When Rachel or I blow in her face and she laughs, half because she enjoys the sensation and half (I think) because she thinks we want her to laugh and she’s learned that the signal to do so and she’s happy to make us laugh too

  • When she’s sleeping in her crib at night, with her face pressed hard into the cushion and her butt sticking up out the air
  • When I cradle her in my arms as she’s fussing for sleep, with her head on my right side (always the right side), and she nestles her head into my body, seeking darkness and comfort, and calms down and lets sleep overtake her
